Our Portland Dentures Expertise

Sleep Dentistry of Portland fits dentures with gentle care and experience.Portland Dentures

Creating a complete denture is a challenge for even experienced dentists. Many fundamentals must be understood prior to beginning, and ignorance of one can lead to failure of the whole denture process.

For most cases, dentures should be comfortable soon after insertion. A couple adjustment visits often are necessary to address any sore spots.

One of the most critical aspects of dentures is making a denture impression with correct technique to make a perfect model of the patient’s gums. Countless, persistent problems with dentures may occur if the final dentures impression is not made properly. It takes considerable patience and experience to get good results, and our dentists at Sleep Dentistry of Portland are meticulous.

You will be asked to approve every step in the process of designing, fitting, and placing your dentures.

Are Dentures for You?

Dentures are prosthetic devices designed to replace missing teeth. Modern technology and materials let Sleep Dentistry of Portland give you a natural and beautiful appearance with comfortable dentures.

How dentures benefit you:

  • Chewing - Chewing ability is drastically improved by replacing missing teeth with dentures
  • Aesthetics - The presence of teeth provide a natural and fuller facial appearance. Wearing dentures to replace missing teeth provides support for the lips and cheeks and helps prevent the collapsed appearance that can occur after tooth loss.
  • Phonetics - Replacing missing teeth, especially the anterior front teeth, helps patients to speak more clearly by improving pronunciation of many words containing certain consonants.

With sedation dentistry by Sleep Dentistry of Portland, you’ll be comfortable during every visit for your affordable dentures. We offer different levels of sedation even for initial visits to examine, mold, and fit dentures.

Types of Portland Dentures

Full and Partial Portland DenturesDentures are supported by the surrounding soft and hard tissues of the mouth. Conventional dentures are removable and come in many different designs.

Complete dentures replace all teeth on an upper or lower jaw, and partial dentures are used when only some teeth are missing. Sleep Dentistry of Portland creates affordable dentures that perfectly fit the upper and lower arches of your mouth.

Dentures clip onto the surrounding teeth or attach to dental implants are also available at Sleep Dentistry of Portland. We would be happy to talk to you about all your implant and denture options.

Dental Implants and Dentures

Imagine being able to bite into an apple without a second thought. This can be your reality with implant-secured dentures.

The maxillary (top) denture in most cases is relatively straightforward to make stable without slippage because of the natural suction of the mouth. The mandibular (lower) full denture tends to be the more difficult one because there is no natural suction holding it in place.

For best results, dentists have come to a general conclusion that a lower full denture should be supported by 2 to 4 implants placed in the lower jaw.

Our dentists at Sleep Dentistry of Portland have extensive training in dental implant design and placement.

A lower denture supported by 2 to 4 dental implants is a far more stable product than a lower denture without implants that is held in place only by the weak lower mouth muscles.

With a lower denture secured by dental implants, you should be able to bite into corn-on-the-cob or chew steak. Without implants, it is very difficult or impossible to do so.

Keep Teeth as Long as Possible

Many patients who believe they have “bad teeth” may think it is in their best interest to have all their teeth extracted and replaced by full dentures. Studies show that the majority of patients who actually receive this treatment end up regretting the decision.

This is because full dentures have approximately 10% of the chewing ability of natural teeth. Also, it is often difficult to get them fitted satisfactorily, particularly for the lower arch. Even if a patient retains only two teeth on the lower arch, this will contribute considerably to the denture’s stability. It is thus advised that patients keep their natural teeth as long as possible—especially their lower teeth.
